Activities in and around Battambang

EchPhnom Temples about 5 kms out of town and has a lot Khmer and Pol Pot history. It is possible to hire a tuk-tuk for the journey. There is fantastic scenery along the way. Going without a local driver is not recommended.

River Cruise to Seam Reap

It’s possible to hire a good-sized boat (to accompany 15-20 people) for US$15/hour. The river cruise included stopping at a local village which provided workshop leaders with some insight into life in rural Cambodia – off the tourist track! All participants on this activity highly recommend it.

It is possible to get simple Khmer style skirts and jackets made with a 24 hour turnaround. This can be done at the local central market.

There is a large central market in Battambang located near the hotel selling fruit and local textiles as well as plastic household goods. Soy and cows’ milk is available (long -life).   A western shop is opposite the market. Most western style goods are available at one of the many small stores around the market.

Tuk-tuk Photo Expedition

As mentioned above, the scenery heading out to the temple provides many photographic opportunities. On a group car excursion it is not always possible to stop to photograph these scenes. Another option is to rent a tuk-tuk to meander along, stopping as frequently as you want for as long as you want. Two hours cost US$12.  Trips to the Bamboo train, and the circus school are recommended.
